Learning in Mathematics

Provision

Teachers use the National Numeracy Strategy Framework for teaching Mathematics.  Through careful planning and preparation we ensure that throughout the school, children are given opportunities for:

  • practical activities and mathematical games

  • problem solving/investigations

  • individual, group and whole class discussion and activities

  • open and closed tasks

  • a range of methods of calculating e.g. mental, paper and pencil and using a calculator

  • working with computers as a mathematical tool

Early Years

In Early Years the children follow the Development Matters document. This document is based on the Early Years Curriculum from England and also links closely to the International Primary curriculum. We give all the children ample opportunity to develop their understanding of number, measurement, pattern, shape and space, through varied play based activities that allow them to enjoy, explore, practice and talk confidently about mathematics.
